Family History
(The following is from the Carlson’s 2009 Christmas letter.)
This makes 17 years of teaching for Joey at the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Criminal Justice. He had an article published this year on why women should be allowed to keep their new born babies in prison with them (it actually reduces recidivism – the likelihood of their returning to prison). He has been interviewed by Newsweek and the Canadian Readers’Digest on his findings. He presented his research findings in Boston this year.
Joey is the Young Men’s President and works with the church scout troop in addition to his community BSA Venture Crew. Our BSA civil war unit is now 7 years old, you can see us at http://1848venturecrew.xibus.com This takes up a lot of Joey’s time and he finds it very fun. Their big event was to host two Boy Scout Districts for a civil war day at Ft. Kearny. Pam taught pioneer games. He also had the opportunity to portray the US army leader of the Pawnee Indian Scouts from Ft Kearny this year at the Pawnee Indian Pow-Wow at the Great Platte River Road Archway. Our 1848 Venture crew also performed. He also had the opportunity to visit the Revolutionary War battle sites of Lexington and Concord. Joey and his youth leader were on our local TV talk show, for about 20 min., doing a civil war reenactment and dressing up the talk show hosts. It went over really well.
